Review
Magic in the Wind is a light, both in tone and word-count, romance that begins the Drake Sisters series. Originally a short story, Magic in the Wind has been expanded into a novella slightly over one hundred pages.
As the first story in the Drake Sisters series, Magic in the Wind follows oldest sister Sarah's love story. This romance isn't perfect and probably needed more build up than the book allows. Magic is used to explain away the missing and much needed tension between Sarah and Damon.
I would have loved if it had been more in depth, but Magic in the Wind is a great introduction to the series. There's a powerful feeling of true love mixed with magic. We meet some of the sisters and see some of the powers without being overwhelmed by the whole back story and cast of characters in the series. Not necessarily a must read for those who'd like to read later books in the series, but definitely short, easy and enjoyable.

This impression of yours perfectly captures my dissatisfaction with Christine Feehan's storytelling.
@Enbrethiliel - I have seen this in a few of her other novels, now that you mention it. With the magic drawing them together, I think I expect more tension during the build-up, rather than the almost a lack of any build-up whatsoever.

ReplyDelete@Debbie's World of Books - I've read a few of both of those series, and while I enjoyed them (the Ghostwalkers more than the Carpathians). I haven't quite gotten into them as much as this series.
