Why I Love Ginny Weasley

Why I love Ginny Weasley

I may be the biggest Harry Potter fan that you know. Well, perhaps not, hearing the amount of people that wanted to write a “Why I love” or “Why I hate” post for Jennifer. However, I’m certainly the biggest Harry Potter fan that I know. In fact, my family thinks I’m a little touched in the head about the boy wizard and his magical world. When Jennifer put out the call for guest posts, I immediately thought of one of my most favorite characters in Harry’s life. She’s the perfect match for Harry and I rooted for her from the very beginning….Ginny Weasley.

Ginny is such a wonderful character. She doesn’t appear much until the second book, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, but she plays a big part in that episode. Ginny stole my heart the first time she put her elbow in the butter dish gazing at Harry across the Weasley dinner table. Even though she isn’t part of the “big three” – Harry, Hermione and Ron, she plays a crucial role in Harry’s life and no one could have been more loyal, understanding, or just downright good for Harry.

Growing up the only girl after 6 brothers, Ginny could have been a spoiled pampered miss. However, she is tough, talented, and doesn’t take any guff from anyone. She’s strong enough to stand up to and for her family and have you seen her bat bogie curse? It’s awesome, let me tell you. She was patient enough to wait on Harry, letting him grow up and come to her, letting him fall in love with her on her own merit. She didn’t wait around and sit on her hands until that time though. She dated more than one other boy and was kind enough to say yes when Neville asked her to the Yule Ball.

Ginny is good friend to Luna Lovegood and sees beyond the “loony” nickname that others have stuck on Luna. She, Luna and Neville are right in the thick of things when Dumbledore’s Army is taking lessons from Harry and also at Hogwarts when Harry, Ron and Hermione are off searching for the Deathly Hallows and horcruxes in the last book. She shares a love of Quidditch with Harry and even becomes the Gryffindor seeker after Harry is not allowed to play.

She is also the only other person alive who understands what it’s like to have Voldemort inside your mind. Ginny, after all, was the one who talked with Tom Riddle, Voldemort’s alter ego, and who opened the Chamber of Secrets. Imagine what a dark time that was for her. She truly can empathize more than anyone else what Harry’s task really is.

And so, we come to the last and best thing about Ginny. She is the greatest of friends to Harry. She loves him unconditionally and enough to let him go and fight. She doesn’t insist that she go along. She doesn’t beg him to stay home or hide. She is strong enough, loyal enough, and understanding enough to see that he has a destiny. She’ll be there when he finishes his task. She loves him that much and puts him first. That’s real love. And it’s why I love Ginny Weasley – a fabulous, redheaded, beautiful, unspoiled witch!

  1. Great post! I never thought of it like that, but reading your thoughts on it, I guess Ginny is the perfect match for Harry.

  2. Yeah, I still hate Ginny and think that she's a bit of a Mary Sue (not completely though). I don't feel bad as my sister concurs (although most of her vitriol is reserved for Ron) and my best friend is indifferent so she doesn't try to change my mind.

  3. Gotta love Ginny. You can't grow up in a house with six older brothers without developing some real spunk. Plus, yeah, she's perfect for Harry. One big happy Weasley family forever!

  6. Ginny is absolutely made for Harry! I love them together! I love how all the women in the Harry Potter series are strong and smart. Ginny, just like the rest of the characters, has grown right before our eyes and it's amazing how she transformed into such a well rounded women. Amazing post :D
