Synopsis
Half-vampire Catherine Crawfield is going after the undead with a vengeance, hoping that one of these deadbeats is her father—the one responsible for ruining her mother's life. Then she's captured by Bones, a vampire bounty hunter, and is forced into an unholy partnership.
In exchange for finding her father, Cat agrees to train with the sexy night stalker until her battle reflexes are as sharp as his fangs. She's amazed she doesn't end up as his dinner—are there actually good vampires? Pretty soon Bones will have her convinced that being half-dead doesn't have to be all bad. But before she can enjoy her newfound status as kick-ass demon hunter, Cat and Bones are pursued by a group of killers. Now Cat will have to choose a side . . . and Bones is turning out to be as tempting as any man with a heartbeat.
Review
I loved Halfway to the Grave. I can't believe I waited so long to stat this series. I'd heard a lot about Bones and how steamy some of his scenes with Cat could be, and they were, but the book was so much more than just rampant sexiness.
Cat is a strong, likeable character with just enough edge to make her unpredictable a lot of the time. Her past is well fleshed out, making it easy to identify how she came to be the person she is now. Bones, on the other hand, remains something of a mystery. We learn a good deal about him, but we've obviously only grazed the surface here.
The plot was intense, full of action and surprises. I can honestly say that I did not see a majority of the twists coming and that made the book all the more wonderful. The ending was absolutely sensational and definitely made me wonder about Cat's future. Halfway to the Grave has intrigued me and this series is clearly one I'll have to catch up on as soon as possible.
