Synopsis
The story of Ebenezer Scrooge opens on a Christmas Eve as cold as Scrooge's own heart. That night, he receives three ghostly visitors: the terrifying spirits of Christmas Past, Present, and Yet to Come. Each takes him on a heart-stopping journey, yielding glimpses of Tiny Tim and Bob Cratchit, the horrifying spectres of Want and Ignorance, even Scrooge's painfully hopeful younger self. Will Scrooge's heart be opened? Can he reverse the miserable future he is forced to see? Now in an unabridged edition gloriously illustrated by the award-winning P.J. Lynch, this story's message of love and goodwill, mercy and self-redemption resonates as keenly as ever.
Review
I have never liked any of the many Christmas Carol movies, so I was surprised to find that the story itself is so enjoyable in literary form. This specific edition, the 2006 illustrated by P.J. Lynch, is gorgeous. I actually ohhed and ahhed upon opening the book. A Christmas Carol is a story with a wonderful message of goodwill to others and keeping the holiday spirit the whole year through. The ultimate Christmas classic that should be shared with the whole family.

ReplyDeleteThis is on my Christmas wish list for reading this Christmas. Great review!
ReplyDeleteGreat review! This is my favorite Christmas book of all!
ReplyDeleteI also have a gorgeous edition of the book illustrated by Roberto Innocenti, published 1990. It has gorgeous illustrations as well. Check out my Favorite Fictional Character post this week. Guess who? Scrooge! I also listed three of my favorite movie Scrooges. http://thetruebookaddict.blogspot.com/2009/12/favorite-fictional-character-scrooge.html
You are ROCKING my challenge! Great job!
Thanks for contributing this to the Suggest a Christmas Title meme. I found it is available for Kindle free from Amazon too.
ReplyDeleteSad to admit that I've never read this classic. I'll have to make it happen now!
ReplyDeleteSo glad to hear you liked this! I'm hoping to start it next week, and your review has made me even more eager to get going on it :)
ReplyDeleteHaving read my first Charles Dickens novel not long ago, A Tale of Two Cities (and loved it), it makes complete sense to me that you found this story more satisfying in literary form. Dicken's written word is so meaningful and well crafted.
