Synopsis
As the newest witch in Indiana, Maggie O'Neill already has plenty to deal with. So being hobbled by a broken leg doesn't help. Neither does the fact that her best friend and upstairs neighbor is getting ready to tie the knot with her own boyfriend and move away. This leads Maggie to wonder if it isn't time to find herself a new pad.
But when she finds a place, Maggie's dream of new digs turns into a nightmare: the apartment manager is found dead before she can even sign the lease. And Maggie finds herself not only searching for a new home- but for a frightfully clever killer.
Review
With the relationships taken care of in A Witch in Time, the Bewitching Mystery series returns its focus to murder in Home for a Spell. The set up for the murder begins almost immediately, the body found soon after and readers will be delighted to find that almost the entire book is Maggie investigating.
Even while still incapacitated by her leg cast, Maggie is still stumbling over corpses and ferreting out killers. Teaming up with both Marcus and Tom, making for some wonderful jealous tension, Maggie's embroiled in the best mystery in the series to date.
Maggie's prospective landlord is killed, and while the motive is obvious early on, the murderer is not. Twists and turns and a mighty unexpected ending will leave readers shocked and anxious for more.
The Bewitching Mystery series is notorious for dragging things out longer than need be. Home for a Spell is no exception. As with the multi-book "should Maggie be with Tom or Marcus?" conundrum, readers will still be wanting to know two big things - What's really going on in Stony Mill? and Is Grandma C a ghost or what?
Even without all the answers we crave, the Bewitching Mystery series is better and better with each new book. Home for a Spell puts the much needed mystery back in the series.
