Do You Have Book Boyfriends?

Reading is all about escape. As readers, we enter into another time, another place, every time we pick up a book. Each book read offers new experiences and new characters to meet. And occasionally, we come across characters that we fall in love with. If these characters were real people, we'd want to date them, marry them, or at the very least drag them into our beds for a night or several.

These characters become our book boyfriends. The beauty of book boyfriends is that they don't get jealous when you start a relationship with another. You can have an infinite amount of book boyfriends, each bringing a separate fantasy to life when you visit their books.

My book boyfriends fall into two categories - the good guy that'll melt your heart or the not necessarily bad boy that exudes sexuality.

The good guys:

Nick Andros from The Stand by Stephen King

Nick is deaf and mute, but he always stands by his friends. He's more than willing to put his life on the line to protect those he loves.

Gabe from Personal Demons by Lisa Desrochers

Gabe is a guardian angel trying his best to keep Frannie safe, while trying to fight his attraction towards her. Ohh, delicious moral inner struggle.

Hank from the Charlie Madigan series by Kelly Gay

Hank's a siren, so he exudes sexuality. But he's also keeping the streets safe and not using his abilities to lure women into bed. Yay for restraint!

The not necessarily bad boys:

Eric Northman

from the Sookie Stackhouse series by Charlaine Harris

Eric's a vampire and has no qualms about killing people. But damn, is he sexy or what?

Carlos "Ranger" Mancuso

from the Stephanie Plum series by Janet Evanovich

Ranger is technically a good guy, but where he draws his moral line in the sand is anyone's guess. He's definitely dangerous though, no doubt about that.

Jason Schuyler

from the Anita Blake series by Laurell K. Hamilton

As monsters go, Jason is far removed from the majority of the Anita Blake characters. But, he's a werewolf who really, really, really likes sex.
