Synopsis
When Anita Blake meets with prospective client Tony Bennington, who is desperate to have her reanimate his recently deceased wife, she is full of sympathy for his loss. Anita knows something about love, and she knows everything there is to know about loss. But what she also knows, though Tony Bennington seems unwilling to be convinced, is that the thing she can do as a necromancer isn't the miracle he thinks he needs. The creature that Anita could coerce to step out of the late Mrs. Bennington's grave would not be the lovely Mrs. Bennington. Not really. And not for long.

Review
Vampire fans beware: there are no vampires here. Flirt is a spectacularly good story, but is a novella and much too short to really get into the action.

Flirt focused on Anita's zombie raising, which is an area that I love and believe has been neglected for the past few books. Flirt also focuses a lot on Anita's lioness and the implications surrounding the fact that it is un-mated. This is important to the story. The lioness portion needed to be told, but I am left to wonder why it wasn't added as a long beginning to the next book instead of being written as a novel in its own right.

There is bonus material in this novel, adding length in a way that most series fans will like but would rather have in the form of more story telling. Hamilton tells how she had the idea for Flirt and includes a comic strip depicting the event. It's interesting but ultimately used to pad the page count.

This is a great story and a fantastic addition to the series, but most readers will be disappointed to find that once the story really gets moving, it's already over.
