Synopsis
Anita Blake, vampire hunter, is now herself a hunted woman. Who put the $500,000 price on her head--a man or a monster? It's not just her own skin she needs to save; the rivalry between her werewolf boyfriend, Richard, and Marcus, the other alpha werewolf in his pack, has come to full boil. And there's always Jean-Claude, the vampire who's been waiting for just the right moment to slip inside Anita's head and heart. Don't assume anything, though--Hamilton's probably got a few more surprises in store.

Review
The Killing Dance furthers many story lines in the Anita Blake series. Laurell K. Hamilton manages to delve farther into Anita's romantic relationships with Richard and Jean-Claude, her working relationship with Edward and Dolph, and the continued power struggle in Richard's pack, without losing steam or glossing over anything of importance.

Richard, Anita and Jean-Claude. The Killing Dance takes them in an unexpected direction. Anita's decisions may not turn out how she originally meant them to, but there is no denying that the three will be tied closer than ever in future books. Anita finally gets some real action in The Killing Dance and thankfully it's satisfying, given the multi-book build up.

Edward is really the star of The Killing Dance. He proves himself a friend to Anita, as opposed to the guy who may kill her one day. It's hard to imagine Edward as endearing, but his roll as protector in this book sets him in a new light. He's still scary, but it's obvious that there is much more going on there.

The werewolf situation comes to a head in The Killing Dance, in both obvious and surprising ways. Anita's surprise when it comes to Richard learning what it truly means to be a werewolf seems a little far-fetched, but her discomfort if fantastically realistic.

As the characters grown and begin to accept themselves more, the story takes on a life of its own. The Killing Dance is a turning point in the Anita Blake series and nothing will ever be the same.
