Synopsis
Vampires, and werewolves, and demons, oh my. Rhiannon thought facing off against a deranged child vampire was the most dangerous task she would ever have to undertake, but she's about to discover making a deal with a demon is far, far worse. Sent forward into another reality, one in which vampires are now dominating nearly extinct humans, she realizes the sooner she returns to her vampire lover, Disco, the better.
Unfortunately, time changes a lot of things, including those most trusted around her. When she's faced with a loss and betrayal unlike any she has ever known, her focus shifts from severing the debt between the demon that wants to kill her, to exacting a revenge that will bring forth consequences she never could have fathomed. By reaching out to the darkness lingering within her, she'll find the strength to push forward despite the circumstances that would see her dead and buried.
After all, when it's all said and done, all that she has left to lose is her soul.
Review
Dead, Undead or Somewhere in Between ended with a monster game-changing cliffhanger, leaving readers tearing their hair out, needing to know what would happen to Rhiannon, Disco and the others. The Renfield Syndrome begins with Rhiannon finding herself 101 years in the future. Things have changed. Vampires no longer remain in secrecy, they aren't the only supernatural creatures around and humans are on the brink of extinction.
Rhiannon is still as badass as ever, but understandably off balance given her strange and unsettling predicament. Finding yourself a century away from everyone and everything you've ever known with no clue how to get back to your own time can do that to a person. Finding Disco is priority number one, but Rhiannon finds herself being held captive by people claiming to be protecting her within moments of arriving in the future.
As the story progresses, Rhiannon is presented with two new potential love interests. While I love Rhiannon and Disco, The Renfield Syndrome puts Rhiannon in a place in which she could, potentially chose to be with either one of them without betraying her relationship with him. One man's a new character and the other we've met previously. I loved the relationship that develops between the Rhiannon and the man she knew before. Loved it enough to quite possibly want her with him instead of Disco. Shocking, but true.
The Renfield Syndrome is constantly surprising. It's keeps you guessing constantly, never letting you even begin to believe you know who things are going to play out. Rhiannon remains one of my absolute favorite kickass female characters and Rhiannon's Law has shot up to one of my "must read each new release immediately" series. If you loved Dead, Undead or Somewhere in Between, The Renfield Syndrome will blow your mind. If you haven't checked out the Rhiannon's Law series yet, you definitely missing out.
