Joyland by Stephen King

Joyland by Stephen King
2013, Hard Case Crime

Synopsis: Set in a small-town North Carolina amusement park in 1973, Joyland tells the story of the summer in which college student Devin Jones comes to work as a carny and confronts the legacy of a vicious murder, the fate of a dying child, and the ways both will change his life forever.

The Good: I had expected a straight crime novel based on the publishing line, so I was overjoyed to find King had managed to sneak in some supernatural elements. Very nostalgic, in a good way. King certainly sets the scene well and I thoroughly enjoy a good carny story - which are harder to come by than you might think. The mystery is solid and I did not figure it out before the big reveal/showdown.

The Bad: Nothing at all.
