Afterlight by Elle Jasper

Afterlight by Elle Jasper
2010, Signet
Series: Book 1 of Dark Ink Chronicles

Synopsis: Savannah's most unconventional tattoo artist, Riley Poe, lives on the edge. Now she's put over the edge when her younger brother is taken by a sinister cult led by vampires. Her only ally is the hot-tempered vampire Eli Dupre, attracted to Riley's beauty and rare blood type. To save her brother from certain un-death, Riley faces dangers she's never dreamed of, ruthless bloodthirsty enemies, and an evil of endless hunger that wants to devour it all...

The Good: I really, really enjoyed Afterlight. Riley is an amazing main character. A former junkie, who turned her life around to raise her little brother. She's a spectacular tattoo artist, runs her own shop and kickboxes to get some of her aggression out. Any story featuring Riley would be great, but Afterlight throws some evil and not-as-evil vampires into the mix. I could not put this book down.  had to know what was coming every single step of the way.

The Bad: The writing needed a little something. More editing, probably. There was a ton of description. Way more than necessary, leading to a bunch of skimming on my part to get to the plot.
