Fables Vol. 2: Animal Farm by Bill Willingham

 Animal Farm by
2003, Vertigo
Series: Book 2 of Fables

Synopsis: Ever since they were driven from their homelands by the Adversary, the non-human Fables have been living on the Farm—a vast property in upstate New York that keeps them hidden from the prying eyes of the mundane world. But now, after hundreds of years of isolation, the Farm is seething with revolution, fanned by the inflammatory rhetoric of Goldilocks and the Three Little Pigs. And when Snow White and her sister Rose Red stumble upon their plan to liberate the Homelands, the commissars of the Farm are ready to silence them—by any means necessary!

The Good: This series is comparable to the Once Upon a Time TV show, except it's a little more messed up. It pushes the envelope more, taking the well known characters into darker places. And that's pretty awesome. Some very good twists in this edition. Definitely plan on continuing on with Fables.

The Bad: Animal Farm wasn't quite as good as the first volume, but that's probably tied pretty closely to my dislike of the George Orwell book of the same name. This volume loosely follows the happenings in that book and that particular plot line never works for me.

Also: If you enjoy these graphic novels, you have to check out the video game, The Wolf Among Us. It's phenomenal.
