Why I Love Hermoine Granger

Why I Love Hermione Granger
By Ekta Patel

Hermione Granger. Where to begin? Well, maybe I should begin with myself. My name is Ekta Patel and I’m 16 years old. Needless to say, I love Harry Potter with a passion as I’m sure many of you do as well. When I was thinking about who to write about for this post, the answer was pretty clear in my mind. I chose Hermione Granger, my absolute favourite character in the Harry Potter series. Why do I love her oh, so much, you may ask? Well, read ahead!

1) She is incredibly smart! She’s the brightest witch of her age and can beat out any student when it comes to academics and mostly everything else. She has this never-ending thirst for knowledge which proves to be very useful throughout her years. How many times has she saved lives because of knowing Hogwarts, A History by heart? Or from reading all her spellbooks in her free time? Numerous, countless times! And the fact that she’s muggle born makes her even more passionate about learning because she wants to be the best witch she can be to prove herself. She may come off as a know-it-all but only because she wants to show that she’s not to be underestimated because of her blood; she’s a force to be reckoned with!

2) Hermione Granger is an inspirational role model. I believe that girls everywhere should be looking up to her and Emma Watson, for that matter. Hermione Granger is smart, down to earth, ambitious and brave, but she can also be annoying and a know-it-all. I love that her character is so versatile because it makes it easier to connect with her. I’m sure young girls everywhere admire her for her ability to fight but also the fact that she loves to read. She has faults, no doubt, but she perseveres and pushes past them. The fact that she’s not shown as perfect makes her a much more believable character. And Emma Watson is not to be forgotten. I mean, all throughout her career, from when we first met her in Philosopher’s Stone, to now, she’s been level headed. She has stayed on track and grown from a sweet, innocent girl into a lovely, strong woman. She’s attending Brown University right now and that’s a great example to everyone because even though she’s super busy with her career, she’s recognized that school is very important as well. I’m telling you, Hermione and Emma are both amazing and I’ve admired them ever since I began reading Harry Potter.

3) Hermione can take care of HERSELF! She doesn’t need a man to deal with her issues and problems. Even though Harry, Ron and Hermione all depend on each other in situations, you know that Hermione is capable of doing things on her own. If, say, Ron were to ever leave her, Hermione wouldn’t sulk around all day like a zombie and go into a state of depression, cutting off all communication with the world because of one boy *ahem Bella* Hermione would find something interesting and productive to do while she got over him, but, she wouldn’t become a hollow shell of a person. She’s independent in a way that most people aren’t, which is another reason why she’s such a terrific role model. Basically, Hermione is able to work efficiently and intelligently with others and by herself, even in times of impending doom, and that warrants for some applause.

4) She can kick your ass! Yeah, that’s right, you! Well, unless you have some super power that we don’t know about. Heck, even if you did have a super power, she’d still probably beat you! Haha, I’m just kidding, don’t let it hurt your ego too much :D Anywho, Hermione is not one to stay away from action, as much as she may want to. Sure, she’s afraid of getting in trouble but if her best friends are in danger, do you think she’s going to sit around crying and waiting for someone else to save them? NO WAY! She’s going to get off her butt and do something about it! She has the power, the knowledge and the determination to fight any one she pleases. She fought Bellatrix in Deathly Hallows, did she not? Hermione, along with Ginny and Luna, knew how strong and dangerous Bellatrix was but she still went up against her for the greater good. And let’s not forget Hermione’s fearless slap. I know Draco wasn’t feeling too hot when it landed across his face! We know she was angry when she slapped him but there was so much more behind it. There was valour, strength, and overall, devotion. So, the next time you want to talk crap about Hagrid, you better watch yourself!

5) Just look at the pretty little face of hers! Hermione, along with all the students of Hogwarts, grew up right in front of our eyes. As we’re reading, Rowling gives vivid descriptions of her characters so that the readers are able to imagine them. In the books, I’m sure we all saw Harry, Ron and Hermione grow into the strong adults they are at the end of Deathly Hallows. But, we also saw them grow up on the big screen. Daniel Radcliff, Rupert Grint and Emma Watson transformed from tiny, cute, little kids into strong, brave, passionate heroes. Hermione Granger/Emma Watson is absolutely gorgeous! Plus, her strength, bravery and confidence only add to her natural beauty. By the way, I love Emma’s new hair and I’m glad she did it because it was something she wanted to do for a while and she had the strength to just do it. Not many people would have taken the chance but she did and I’m so proud of her for doing it!

I could go on and on and on and on about Hermione Granger, but I think I’ve said enough. Bottom line is, I love Hermione Granger and I think you should too! But, I’m not pushing you :D And I can’t think of a good way to end this so, I’m just going to leave you with a couple of my favourite quotes.

"I hope you're pleased with yourselves. We could all have been killed - or worse, expelled. Now if you don't mind, I'm going to bed." (Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, Chapter 9)

"You're saying it wrong," Harry heard Hermione snap. "It's Wing-gar-dium Levi-o-sa, and make the 'gar' nice and long." (Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, Chapter 10)

"Look at him blubber!”
Malfoy, Crabbe, and Goyle had been standing just inside the castle doors, listening.
“Have you ever seen anything quite as pathetic?" said Malfoy. "And he's supposed to be our teacher!"
Harry and Ron both made furious moves toward Malfoy, but Hermione got there first -- SMACK!
She had slapped Malfoy across the face with all the strength she could muster. Malfoy staggered. Harry, Ron, Crabbe, and Goyle stood flabbergasted as Hermione raised her hand again.
“Don’t you dare call Hagrid pathetic, you foul –you evil- “
"Hermione!" said Ron weakly, and he tried to grab her hand as she swung it back.
"Get off, Ron!"
Hermione pulled out her wand. Malfoy stepped backwards. Crabbe and Goyle looked at him for instructions, thoroughly bewildered.
"C' mon," Malfoy muttered, and next moment, all three of them had disappeared into the passageway to the dungeons. (Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, Chapter 15)

Professor Lupin: "You're the cleverest witch of your age I've ever met, Hermione." (Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, Chapter 17)

... Hermione interrupted them."Aren't you two ever going to read Hogwarts, A History?"
"What's the point?" said Ron. "You know it off by heart, we can just ask you." (Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Chapter 28)

"Ron," said Hermione in a dignified voice, dipping the point of her quill into her ink pot, "you are the most insensitive wart I have ever had the misfortune to meet." (Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, Chapter 21)

A slightly stunned silence greeted the end of this speech, then Ron said, "One person can't feel all that at once, they'd explode."
"Just because you've got the emotional range of a teaspoon doesn't mean we all have," said Hermione nastily, picking up her quill again. (Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, Chapter 21)

  3. I agree. Hermione is definitely a heroine to look up to. She's smarter than her friends and has saved them numerous times with her knowledge. I doubt if Harry could have done what he did without Hermione.
