Top Ten Words That Instantly Make Me Buy A Book

Hosted by: The Broke and Bookish

1. Witches - Both supernatural fiction and historically based, such as the Salem Witch Trials. Although, I have noticed my interest in supernatural witches has recently eclipsed most other interests.

2. Zombies - An long-time guaranteed buy, but due to the recent influx of zombie titles into the market, I've had to start being a lot choosier.

3. Plague - I love a good plague story, especially ones that focus on the medical aspect as well as the potential fall of society.

4. Boarding School - I'm a grown woman. I cannot explain my fixation with the boarding school setting. All I know is that I almost always like stories set in boarding schools and I accept that.

5. Post-Apocalyptic - Preferably more thrilling or gripping than bleak. It doesn't have to be uplifting or anything, but morbidly depressing is where I draw the line.

6. Mythology -  I used to think it was just Roman, Greek and Egyptian mythology that did it for me, but it seems I'm open to all mythology based stories regardless of origin.

7. Culinary - My tastes are eclectic. Whatever. Stories about cooking (which I excel at), baking (which I do not, at all), candy making (yeah, right), coffee (which I might as well bathe in given the amount of caffeine I ingest daily), etc interest the hell out of me.

8. Psychics - Real ones, fake ones, doesn't matter to me. As long as they're more fortune teller, rather than ghost whisperer.

9. Matchmaking - There's just something about the client files and mathematical algorithms used to suggest potential matches that interests me. Do I know how to suck the fun out of finding love, or what?

10. Reality TV - I don't even watch reality TV. But write a fictionalized version, preferably with some behind-the-scenes scandal or horror and I'm absolutely going to read it.

  1. I'm with you on #4. I can't explain it either, but I do find boarding school stories totally fascinating. Maybe because I went to plain, old public schools, living at school just seems exotic!

  3. I'd like to read some more culinary books- I know there are some food memoirs and nonfiction pieces out there. I wish there was more high quality lit, though- I think restaurants make awesome settings.
