Once Bitten and Jacob's Ladder

October Horror Movie Challenge Day 32

Once Bitten (1985)

Why I Watched:
Halloween Theme Night

What I Learned:
  • This movie is so 80s it bleeds neon.
  • In the 80s, before the term cougar was coined.
  • Epic dance off. For a man.

Rating:

Jacob's Ladder (1990)

What I Learned:
  • Too much foreshadowing.
  • Seriously, we get it.
  • Great movie, but loses something in the reveal. Because we freaking know already.

Idle Hands and The Town That Dreaded Sundown

October Horror Movie Challenge Day 31

Idle Hands (1999)

Why I Watched:
Demonic Possession / Satanic / Witchcraft / Hell Theme Night
Rewatch

What I Learned:
  • More movies need Jack Noseworthy.
  • I love Seth Green acting. I always get so excited when he's in something and more than half the time it's just voiceover.

Rating:

The Town That Dreaded Sundown (2014)

What I Learned:
  • I didn't know Edward Herrmann was in this. Must have been one of his last films.
  • I liked this a lot better than the original.

Paranormal Activity 4, Tremors 5: Bloodlines and A Fantastic Fear of Everything

October Horror Movie Challenge Day 30

Paranormal Activity 4 (2012)

Why I Watched:
Bats/Cats/Rats Theme Night

What I Learned:
  • There's always a lot of empty room scenes and people sleeping scenes in these movies.

Rating:

Tremors 5: Bloodlines (2015)

What I Learned:
  • Oh Burt Gummer, I missed you.

Rating:

A Fantastic Fear of Everything (2012)

What I Learned:
  • Simon Pegg in a towel dancing and rapping is everything I ever wanted to see in life.

Jessabelle, 100 Feet and Undead

October Horror Movie Challenge Day 29

Jessabelle (2014)

Why I Watched:
Supernatural Theme Night

What I Learned:
  • Her accent seems to come and go.
  • Sort of twisty, but thankfully they spell it all out of you in case you don't understand.

Rating:

100 Feet (2008)

What I Learned:
  • Early Gossip Girl Ed Westwick
  • The dead husband's partner is ridiculous. He hates her, then he wants to help her, then he hates her, just stop.
  • This all could have ended so much sooner, stupid woman.

Rating:

Undead (2003)

What I Learned:
  • One type of movie, and then a completely different type of movie.
  • May be trying too hard to be different. Like a genre mashup.
  • Light, but not really funny. Lacking the humor needed for a legit horror comedy.

Spring, The Dark Hours, The Awakening and Case 39

October Horror Movie Challenge Day 28

Spring (2014)

Why I Watched:
Were-Creature Theme Night

What I Learned:
  • "White people love Italy"
  • Interesting but slow and not at all horrific.

Rating:

The Dark Hours (2005)

What I Learned:
  • Girl gets her hair chopped off with an ax by a psychopath and it still looks better than every haircut I've ever had.

Rating:

The Awakening (2011)

What I Learned:
  • Consider yourself lucky if just see something scary when looking through a hole in the wall. I always expect eye gouging

Rating:
Case 39 (2009)

What I Learned:
  • I knew Renee Zellweger was in this, but Bradley Cooper is a total surprise.
  • Hornets. Nope. Nope. Nope.
  • How do you not know your cell phone is missing for days? Even in 2009, that's crazy.

Camp Dread, Ghoulies II, Gutterballs and Dark Skies

October Horror Movie Challenge Day 27

Camp Dread (2014)

Why I Watched:
Slasher Theme Night

What I Learned:
  • Danielle Harris as the sheriff. That's sort of an unexpected role. And awesome.
  • Danielle Harris has a 2 minute scene in the beginning, unrelated to the plot. Yet she's on the poster. I hate that.

Rating:

Ghoulies II (1988)

What I Learned:
  • Love the carnival thing going on here, but the rest is super boring.

Rating:

Gutterballs (2008)

What I Learned:
  • Gag. These people are all awful. I can't wait until they're all brutally murdered.
  • If this is a rape/revenge movie, I have no idea why some of these characters are being killed.
  • This is graphic. I generally appreciate a certain brutality level but this is unnecessarily extreme for the plot.

Rating:
Dark Skies (2013)

What I Learned:
  • Very interesting take on alien abduction.
  • And Keri Russell, you don't see her much anymore.

Gingerdead Man vs. Evil Bong, Hallowed Ground, Hidden and The Green Inferno

October Horror Movie Challenge Day 26

Gingerdead Man Vs. Evil Bong (2013)

Why I Watched:
Vs. Theme Night

What I Learned:
  • We're still doing series recap. Way too much recap. Evil Bong backstory isn't this complicated.
  • Halfway through and it's time for a Gingerdead Man recap. Movie is only 80 minutes long and these recaps aren't short

Rating:

Hallowed Ground (2007)

What I Learned:
  • I have yet to see good scarecrow horror. This isn't going to be it.
  • A very young ChloĆ« Grace Moretz is in this. Pretty much the only selling point.

Rating:

Hidden (2015)

What I Learned:
  • This is one of those movies you can't talk about without ruining it for everyone else, but wow.

Rating:

The Green Inferno (203)

What I Learned:
  • People who complain this movie is graphic for purely shock value obviously haven't seen any other cannibal tribe movies.
  • This is very typical for the subgenre and done very well.

Final Exam, Blood Night, Burning Bright and Vamps

October Horror Movie Challenge Day 25

Final Exam (1981)

Why I Watched:
Once shown in a drive in double feature theme night

What I Learned:
  • Sniper jokes in a college class. Yeah, the 80s was a very different time.
  • Hardcore hazing. Classic 80s. When bullying was something that brought people together.

Rating:

Blood Night (2009)

What I Learned:
  • Danielle Harris is ageless. Mid-30s and still playing a high schooler. Convincingly.
  • In my experience, group porn watching/mockery does not usually lead to a dance party.

Rating:

Burning Bright (2010)

What I Learned:
  • Mother kills herself and daughter is left to attempt college while raising autistic little brother. This is depressing.
  • This girl is a saint for attempting to make this work
  • Stepfather steals the kids money to buy a tiger. And believes his argument is valid.
  • Twist ending was not twisty. Always assumed that was the case.

Rating:

Vamps (2012)

What I Learned:
  • Just about every single person in this movie is recognizable. Weird, as it came out 3 years ago and I never heard about it.
  • Alicia Silverstone, Krysten Ritter, Sigourney Weaver, Wallace Shawn, Richard Lewis, Kristen Johnston, Malcolm McDowell. So many
